Court of International Trade blocks Trump’s tariffs in sweeping ruling

() President Donald Trump on Friday accused China of violating a trade agreement with the United States as tensions between Washington and Beijing persist.

In a social media post, Trump claimed China experienced civil unrest under his sweeping tariffs, leading Trump to make a “fast deal” for stabilization.

“Because of this deal, everything quickly stabilized and China got back to business as usual,” Trump wrote. Everybody was happy! That is the good news!!! The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US. So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!”

The 90-day agreement, reached earlier this month, slashed Trump’s sky-high tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while Beijing dropped its own from 125% to 10%.

Trump has not yet clarified what China did to allegedly violate the deal, though White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller on Friday morning said, “China has abrogated the agreement.”

“The United States acted immediately and in good faith, as of course you all saw with the proclamation adjusting the tariff rate,” he added.

“China is committed to keeping global industrial and supply chains stable. We firmly oppose the U.S.’s malicious moves to block and suppress China,” the nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on X.

On Thursday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters that trade talks between the U.S. and China were “a bit stalled” and might require direct input from Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Trump administration is currently in a legal battle over whether the president’s sweeping tariffs can remain in place.
