GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Luvmarr D’layy Hamby, 20, was arrested early this morning for allegedly stabbing a man and choking a woman at GRACE Marketplace.
Shortly after midnight, officers from the Gainesville Police Department arrived at GRACE Marketplace (3055 NE 28th Drive) to find a man lying on the ground, bleeding. The victim reported being stabbed and feeling “blood going into his lungs.” Once taken to the hospital, he claimed that he had been protecting a friend involved in a fight with Hamby, during which Hamby allegedly stabbed him. He sustained wounds on his chest, shoulder, and arm.
Officers reportedly found a knife at the scene, and a witness reportedly said he had seen Hamby with the knife.
A woman informed an officer that approximately an hour prior to the stabbing, Hamby had choked her, restricting her breathing. The officer noted significant bruising on her neck. The woman stated that she had known Hamby for a couple of days and had been sexually intimate with him.
Post Miranda, Hamby reportedly said he didn’t have much to say and then declined to say anything else.
Hamby, who is listed as residing at GRACE Marketplace, does not have a local criminal record. Judge Sheree Lancaster has ordered that he be held without bail, pending a hearing on a request from the State Attorney’s office to detain him without bail until his trial.
