A 37-year-old Louisiana man faces multiple counts related to the stabbing of a 6-year-old child on Sunday.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office announced they responded to a home in Leonville regarding a report of “a domestic disturbance.” Upon arrival, they discovered the child who had “multiple lacerations and stab wounds affecting the face, neck, and chest areas.”

The suspect, identified as Patrick Seth Greene, “was combative with officers that ultimately took him into custody.”

The victim was taken to Opelousas General Hospital and then airlifted to Baton Rouge with life-threatening injuries.

Greene faces charges involving domestic abuse battery with child endangerment, alongside two counts of aggravated assault and resisting an officer. According to the sheriff’s office, detectives are continuing their investigation, and they anticipate filing additional charges.

“Our profound sympathies are with the family and our prayers are for the young child,” Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said.

As reported by the American Press, Greene serves as a teacher and coach at the ninth grade campus of Sulphur High School. Public Information Officer Mark LeBlanc from the Sheriff’s Office shared that the victim has undergone surgeries and remains in intensive care, listed in critical condition.

Six other children were in the home, he said.

“The mother did sustain injuries at the hands of Mr. Greene and we’re still determining whether or not the other six juveniles suffered any physical injury and to what extent — there’s still a lot yet known,” said LeBlanc, adding that the other children and the mother were certainly put in danger.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board, Greene’s employer, said he would be placed on administrative leave “pending the outcome of a personnel investigation.

The sheriff’s office did not describe the relationship between Greene and his victim or say what led up to the stabbing. They asked anyone with information to contact them at 337-948-6516.
