An allegedly unstable intruder attempted to break into Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in a bid to propose marriage to his teenage granddaughter Kai.
Police quickly apprehended 23-year-old Anthony Thomas Reyes while he was trying to climb over a wall of the expansive estate early Tuesday morning.
Reports indicate that Reyes expressed his admiration for young Kai to the authorities and claimed he intended to “spread the gospel” to Trump.
Trump, 78, was in Washington at the time of the incident but was briefed, a White House spokesperson confirmed today.
It is unsure if Kai – the daughter of Donald Trump Jr – or anyone else was in the property.
Reyes was initially arrested on trespassing charges and given a $1,000 bond.
This was subsequently raised to $50,000, according to records from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.
Federal charges could likely follow due to his history.
The break-in marked at least the second time Reyes has been caught trying to get inside the exclusive Florida club.
He tried on New Year’s Eve but failed to access the property.
The president and his family were at home at the time.
Back in 2017, an intruder even tried to access the White House wearing a backpack after bypassing security by jumping over a fence.
Kai is one of the most famous granddaughter’s in the world due to her close bond to the US president.
The pair regularly share snaps together with them both having a keen interest in golf.
The 18-year-old is set to head to the University of Miami when she graduates high school.
She boasts 1.7 million followers on Instagram and also has a YouTube and TikTok presence.
Kai has racked up three million followers on TikTok and her content is peppered with golfing trips, lifestyle vlogs, and videos with her grandfather.
In one clip, she was seen confidently striding into Miami’s Kaseya Center as she attended UFC 314 with Trump.
Photos showed Kai locked in conversation with Trump and UFC mogul Dana White.
She has also taken her legion of fans on behind the scenes tour and has managed to combine golf with politics in her clips.
In one YouTube video, she was seen practising on a golf simulator at the White House.
