Mom provided false alibi to cover up for son's crime: Police

Kayla Cobb is shown being arrested by Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies (Volusia County Sheriff’s Office).

A Florida mother has been arrested for allegedly providing a false alibi for her teenage son, who was suspected of stabbing another teen.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office issued a press statement revealing the arrest of 33-year-old Kayla Cobb. Authorities state she gave police a fake alibi for her 15-year-old son, who was accused of attacking another student near a Deltona, Florida middle school on May 14. Both Kayla and her son were detained on that same day.

Court documents show Cobb faced misdemeanor charges for misleading law enforcement during a felony investigation. She was held in the Volusia County Jail with a bond set at $500, with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday. However, records show the hearing was canceled, and Cobb remained in custody.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood shared via a Facebook video that “Mom provided a false alibi for him that was proven to be a lie.” The alibi crumbled when cell phone records confirmed her son’s presence at the scene on May 14, the sheriff explained.
