Some individuals experienced an unforeseen issue after collecting their Nintendo Switch 2 preorders at GameStop: staples used to attach receipts to Switch 2 boxes resulted in screen damage to the consoles, as highlighted by IGN. Nevertheless, GameStop has indicated that this problem was “isolated” to one particular store and that they have already provided replacements.

Upon opening the Switch 2 box, you’ll notice that the tablet/screen part of the device is positioned just beneath the box’s top flap. This close proximity may elucidate how staples could penetrate and puncture the screen — particularly if the person utilizing the stapler applied ample force.

Reports began to circulate through the night as customers received their preorders. In this post on X, for instance, you can view images showing two marks on the box, a bag, and the screen.

To IGN, a GameStop spokesperson said that it was “investigating the matter” and promised to “make customers whole.” And on Thursday, one Reddit user affected by the problem said that they spoke with a GameStop manager who said they would be able to exchange their damaged unit.

“We’ve addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens – isolated to one store,” GameStop says in a post on X. “Replacements have been offered. Staplers have been confiscated.”
