Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon Smacks Down Religious Ignorance, Regardless of Source

Harmeet Dhillon, currently holding the position of Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division under the Trump Administration, has been tasked with clarifying a misconception held by Eric Daugherty, the assistant news director of Florida’s Voice News. Daugherty had erroneously assumed the religious identity of Giani Singh, a Sikh Granthi who delivered the invocation before the House of Representatives on June 6, 2025. The error occurred on the platform X, where Dhillon corrected Daugherty’s mistaken belief that Singh was Muslim, emphasizing the importance of looking beyond initial appearances to accurately identify someone’s religion based on their attire.

The above screenshot represents Daugherty’s original post, which he later amended to correctly identify Singh as Sikh. His initial mistake may have stemmed from taking cues from Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), who originally shared the photo, expressing her dismay at what she thought was a “Muslim” individual leading a prayer. Following the correction, Daugherty modified his post to state, “What appears to be a SIKH led the prayer in the House this morning,” along with sharing a video of the prayer with the question, “What are we doing?”

That led to Dhillon’s post.

Dhillon has a long-established reputation as a formidable advocate for conservative causes, frequently achieving victories. Her vocal criticism of Ronna McDaniel’s ineffective and costly period as RNC chair, as revealed by RedState, contributed significantly to the reshuffle in RNC leadership, thereby playing a role in Donald Trump’s victorious 2024 presidential campaign. Dhillon has consistently supported conservatives in legal arenas, including aiding journalist Andy Ngo. Her selection by Trump underscores her significant contribution to conservative initiatives.
