(NewsNation) — “Sesame Street” characters Bert and Ernie were mentioned in the federal sex crimes trial against Sean “Diddy” Combs on Thursday.

Testifying under the name “Jane,” Combs’ former girlfriend accused him on Thursday of coercing her into engaging in sexual activities with male escorts during their relationship, which lasted from 2021 until his 2024 arrest.

During her testimony, Jane said she and Combs shared pet names, including “Sean, Baby, Ernie, Snookums.”

Jane’s nickname for Combs, “Ernie,” was inspired by the classic “Sesame Street” duo Bert and Ernie.

When asked about the reasoning behind the pet name, she explained, “Because that was our nickname for one another.”

Jane said her nickname from Combs was “Bert.”

Jane continued her testimony on Friday during Diddy’s trial for sex trafficking. The 55-year-old hip-hop icon has denied accusations of operating his business as a criminal organization that facilitated and hid the mistreatment of women for more than twenty years. If found guilty, he could receive a sentence ranging from 15 years to life in prison.
