Reckoning: Lisa Murkowski Censured Again by Alaska Republicans

As RedState’s leading (and only) correspondent from Alaska, I feel a bit embarrassed about the ongoing presence of Senator Lisa Murkowski, whom I’ve dubbed Princess Lisa. Though I give her credit for her perseverance, as she manages to maintain her position in the Senate through her patchwork coalition of Democrats from Anchorage and Juneau, along with moderate Republicans. The controversial ranked-choice voting system also played a part in her latest electoral success, and if we don’t correct this, it could very well aid her future campaigns.

I’m not typically a fan of the term “Republican in Name Only” (RINO) because it often signifies simply a Republican with differing views. However, if anyone fits that description, it’s Senator Murkowski. For example, she’s recently been censured by a faction of the Alaska Republican Party.

On Thursday, members of Alaska Republican Party District 26 in Wasilla met and voted to censure Senator Lisa Murkowski. They passed a resolution that accuses her of various violations against fundamental Republican values. This resolution has been adopted and will now be considered at the State Republican Central Committee meeting on Saturday.

The district had sent the charges to Murkowski and given her time to respond, but did not hear back from her.

You don’t say. But the Wasilla group is not the only one heaping opprobrium on our RINO senator:

Since then, at least seven other districts have followed suit, supporting similar resolutions demanding sanctions. The Valley Republican Women of Alaska also passed a similar resolution condemning Murkowski.

She’s been censured already at the state level as well:

This is not the GOP’s first move to formally rebuke Murkowski. In January 2021, the State Central Committee itself voted 77 percent in favor of censuring her, officially cataloging actions such as her public call for Trump’s resignation and her impeachment votes among the catalysts.

So, one might ask, how does she survive?
