(KTLA) — On Saturday morning, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement carried out a raid in Paramount, California. This operation followed similar actions by federal agents at multiple sites around Los Angeles the previous day.

Large groups of protesters quickly assembled near the sites of the raids on both Friday and Saturday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to KTLA shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Saturday that federal authorities were active in the 6400 block of Alondra Boulevard. However, they clarified that their officers were not participating in the enforcement efforts.

“[Deputies] are only present to manage traffic and ensure public safety; they are not assisting federal officials at the scene,” stated an LASD spokesperson.

United States Attorney Bill Essayli confirmed on social media that federal law enforcement operations are “proceeding as planned this weekend in Los Angeles County” and advised that anyone who tries to interfere with their enforcement will be arrested and prosecuted.

Footage from the scene taken by KTLA shows both protesters and federal agents throwing smoke bombs as the masked agents formed a skirmish line late Saturday morning.

This is a developing story. Stay with KTLA for updates.
