LA Mayor Bass providing update on looting, vandalism amid anti-ICE protests

() Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Tuesday will be providing an update on the looting and vandalism that have occurred in the city as anti-ICE protests continue.

“Let me be clear: ANYONE who vandalized Downtown or looted stores does not care about our immigrant communities,” Bass said in a post on X. “You will be held accountable.”

A California Highway Patrol officer acknowledged that looters are taking advantage of the city’s preoccupied police. Multiple arrests stemmed from a jewelry store break-in overnight.

The city of Los Angeles has seen turmoil since the weekend after ICE raided several locations in downtown LA and detained 44 people while encountering protesters. President Trump deployed 2,000 California National Guard troops on Sunday over the objections of Gov. Gavin Newsom after hundreds of protesters and federal immigration authorities in riot gear.

Crowds also gathered again outside federal buildings downtown, including a detention center, where local police declared an unlawful assembly and began to arrest people.

Border czar Tom Homan sent a warning to California officials that they could face arrest and prosecution if they “cross the line” following Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops.
