JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — On Monday, several emergency teams responded to an incident at the CNB Bank & Trust in Jacksonville following a car crashing into the structure.

The Jacksonville Fire Department reported receiving the call around 2:15 p.m. They were informed that a vehicle had collided with a glass wall, and its front wheels had reached the base of the bank at 1211 W. Morton Avenue.

When the fire department got to the scene, bank employees had already assisted the driver in exiting the vehicle. An ambulance was present to evaluate the driver for any injuries.

The Jacksonville Police Department said the driver, an 89-year-old woman, was not injured in the crash. No one inside the bank was injured either, but a landscaper from an outside company was working during the crash and had to leap out of the way of the car. Police said the landscaper drove to the hospital to get checked out after the crash.

After investigating, police learned that the driver was pulling into the parking lot, and as she was turning into a spot, she saw another car turning. The driver slammed her foot on what she thought was the break, but was actually the gas pedal.

According to the police department, the damage to the building was “pretty extensive,” but the bank remained open for service.

The driver was not ticketed, the Jacksonville Police Department said.

The fire department said the Jacksonville Police Department told them that a tow truck had been called to clear the vehicle from the scene. The fire department was able to clear the scene around 2:30 p.m. The police department cleared the scene about 20 minutes later.

WCIA has reached out to the bank for a statement but did not immediately receive a response back.
