RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. () – An arrest has been made in connection to the death of Devon Laroyce Shade, 32.

The incident happened on April 17th where Shade’s body was discovered in a wooded area off the 2100 block of McNutt Road.

Investigators say Shade was found to have been shot and had been deceased for several days before discovery.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office initially labeled this as a suspicious death investigation, but it was later deemed a homicide by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

After thorough investigative work and the collection of evidence over recent weeks, authorities determined probable cause to arrest June James in relation to Slade’s death. James was apprehended without any issues on Tuesday, June 10th, through a collaborative effort between the RCSO and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. She was subsequently transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center, where she faces charges connected to Slade’s death.

Authorities state that the current charge is Felony Murder.

“The arrest showcases the power of collaboration and agency partnerships. From the initial involvement of Road Patrol to the detailed investigations by our Criminal Investigation Division, along with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and GBI, this case was resolved due to dedication and unity. We are thankful to everyone who contributed to achieving justice for the Shade family,” stated Sheriff Eugene Brantley. “Richmond County solves the majority of its violent crimes and murders, exceeding the national average of about 40%. Richmond County is not a safe haven for violent crime; we pursue justice tirelessly and remain committed to removing violent offenders from our community.”

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, this is still an active investigation.
