Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of a Delaware girl after her mother allegedly filed a false abduction report.

On Wednesday, police detained Darrian Randle, 31, the mother of 3-year-old Nola Dinkins, along with a man named Cedrick Antoine Britten, 44. Charges against Randle include first- and second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in the death of a child under 13. Britten faces charges as an accessory to first- and second-degree murder, as well as other related offenses.

As previously reported by CrimeOnline, Delaware police issued an AMBER Alert for Nola on Tuesday, after her mother claimed that the child had been kidnapped at gunpoint.

Subsequently, detectives in New Castle County uncovered that the mother’s report of the abduction was false, leading them to reclassify the situation as a homicide investigation.

On Wednesday afternoon, Maryland State Police provided an update, revealing that they had recovered a body in Cecil County. Officials stated that the remains appear to be those of a young child, although they are still awaiting positive identification, WBAL-TV reports.

Police located Britten at Randle’s last known address. Following further investigation and questioning, officers discovered human remains in a nearby vacant lot.

Randle is now in custody at the New Castle County Division of Police, awaiting extradition. Britten is being held in Maryland and will be taken to the Cecil County District Court for his initial appearance, according to FOX 39.
