WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. () – Authorities from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that they have apprehended three individuals tied to an alleged attempt to deliver contraband to a prison.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office received reports of drone activity near Washington State Prison. Deputies quickly traced the drones and moved to a wooded area about two miles away from the prison, where a K9 unit helped lead officers to the suspects.

The arrested individuals are: 32-year-old Dylan Scrutchins from Acworth, 37-year-old William White from Stone Mountain, Ga., and 51-year-old Johnathan James, who is reported to be homeless.

All face the following charges:

  • 6 counts Trading with Inmates(felony)
  • 2 counts Illigeal Use of Unmanned Aircraft (felony)
  • 1 count Possession of Tools During the Commission of a Crime (felony)
  • 1 count Possession of Methamphetimine (felony)
  • 1 Count Possible of Heroin (felony)

“The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, working closely with the Georgia Department of Corrections, remains on high alert,” Sheriff Joel Cochran said in a statement. “Whether it’s a late-night drone flight, a sneaky drop-off near the fence line, or some “new” trick straight off the internet, we’re watching. We’re tracking. And we’re ready. We will continue to treat every single one of these incidents as a serious criminal offense — and we will pursue charges to the fullest extent of the law.”

Last week, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested two women for what they called an attempt contraband drop.
