DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Activities have kicked off at the Country Club of Decatur, with all funds raised aiding in one child’s extensive recovery journey.

On January 5, young Charlie Spurlock, a fifth-grader, sustained severe injuries, including head trauma, due to a snow sledding accident. Tragically, the same incident claimed the life of his fellow fifth-grader, Jack Brinkoetter.

While Spurlock is currently in stable condition, his road ahead is uncertain, and he continues his rehabilitation at Shirley Ryan in Chicago.

Now, family, friends and local supporters are holding a day of events with all of the proceeds benefitting Spurlock’s ongoing medical expenses.
