One person injured after shots fired as 10,000 people march for 'No Kings' protest

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A person has been hospitalized with critical injuries following reports of gunfire during a “No Kings” protest in Downtown Salt Lake City.

“We can confirm that the shooting resulted in one individual being critically hurt. The patient has been transported to a hospital with severe injuries. Officers are urging everyone to depart safely and in an orderly manner. The situation is rapidly evolving. Media should assemble at 100 South 300 East. Please upload any videos and photos of the incident,” Salt Lake City Police shared on X.

8 P.M.: POSSIBLE SHOTS FIRED

From Salt Lake City Police:

“We are looking into a shooting potentially linked to the demonstration near 200 South State Street. Numerous law enforcement units are on site working to verify facts and identify if there is a victim involved. We have a person of interest in custody. We advise participants to leave the protest area safely and in an orderly fashion.”

Earlier today

People from cities across Utah, including Ogden, Kanab, Logan, Cedar City, and St. George came together for what they’re calling “No Kings” protests. Demonstrators using the protests to oppose what they believe is President Trump’s power grab.

Thousands of attendees packed Library Square at the University of Utah on Saturday morning for the first of two ‘No Kings’ protests being held in Salt Lake City. A second protest is underway at Pioneer Park.

The protests are part of the “No Kings” movement, with other protests planned nationwide set to coincide with the planned celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday and President Trump’s 79th birthday.

Officials have urged throughout the week for protests to remain peaceful.

6 P.M.: PROTEST IN PIONEER PARK

Another protest is underway at Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City, where thousands of attendees are marching from Pioneer Park to the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building

The Salt Lake City Police Department estimates that 10,000 people are in attendance, and state they are helping with traffic control as the group marches to the Federal Building.

2 P.M.: PROTEST IN ST. GEORGE

Protests continued across Utah this afternoon, with people taking to the streets for the St. George ‘No Kings’ protest.

1 P.M.: PROTEST IN OGDEN

Hundreds of protesters gathered near the Union Station in Ogden to express their opinions on a variety of subjects including immigration, women’s rights, and the president’s policies.

Taking to social media, Ogden City Mayor Ben Nadolski said, “Public safety in Ogden is, and always will be, our top priority. The Ogden Police Department does not have, nor do we seek, the authority to enforce federal immigration laws. I have always been, and remain fully committed to keeping the Ogden Police Department apolitical.”

12:00 P.M.: PROTEST IN KANAB

“It’s time we stood up and did something for our country,” says one demonstrator who spoke with ABC4 at the demonstration near Jacob Hamblin Park.
