Alaska Man Monday - Moose Births, Martial Arts, and a New Shootin' Iron

Fairbanks athlete, Jane Lanford, is teaming up with Shelter Box to fundraise for disaster assistance by running 70 miles across three days to mark her 70th birthday.

Lanford started her run on Saturday on the Denali Highway and finished on Monday.

She said she’s completed many long-distance marathons in her life and is very used to long runs.

“Covering 70 miles in three days is more manageable than a marathon,” stated Lanford. “This way, I can rest between runs, as long as I cover the total miles each day.”

Harsh weather conditions were Lanford’s biggest challenge, she explained.

“I had sun, overcast clouds, a lot of rain, hail sideways, sleet, snow up in the upper elevations,” said Lanford.

The Denali Highway is a challenging drive, never mind a run. Jane Lanford has grit, and to spare – and a generous spirit to boot:

Lanford set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for ShelterBox, a non-profit that ensures no one goes without shelter following a disaster.

Alaska Man score: 5 moose nuggets. Tenacious and determined are a good combination in the Great Land.

But before we celebrate too much, we’ve got a story on some not-so-bright criminals. First up, a tipsy performer caught in the act. Yes, indeed: foolish crooks, dancing away right on the streets!

On 6/9/25 at 05:10 hours Alaska State Troopers received multiple reports of a female dancing in the middle of the Old Glenn Highway. Troopers contacted the female, Tasha Knox, who was intoxicated and had an active warrant for Fail to Appear O.C. Assault 4, Interfere with Report of a DV Crime, and Criminal Mischief 4. Tasha was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial and held on $750 bail.

At least Tasha is a happy drunk.

Alaska Man score: 1 of 5 moose nuggets. Tasha gets a point for the entertainment value.

And another dumb crook; summer comes to the Great Land, and all the dummies are out and about. This one was running down the middle of the road, forcing cars to swerve to miss him.

On June 9th, 2025, Troopers responded to two separate reports of a man, later identified as Kane Evan, in the roadway near Little Shot and the Parks Highway with a dog. Kane was first contacted and warned not to enter the roadway again, as it posed a hazard to the motoring public. Despite this, he was later seen running down the middle of the road with his dog, causing a vehicle to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting him. Kane was subsequently arrested for Disorderly Conduct under AS 11.61.110(a)(5) for knowingly creating a hazardous condition and obstructing traffic after being previously warned.

Now that’s dumb. It’s unclear if he was drunk or not, but I know I have my guess.

Alaska Man score: 0.5 of 5 moose nuggets. Kane wasn’t as entertaining. Maybe if he had danced on the road instead of running.

Now then, how about those dandelions? Mrs. Clark is always popular in these videos (she’s much cuter than I am, for one thing), so here she is to talk about her Alaska dandelion wine.
