Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Cecil Lamar Jackson III, 31, was arrested yesterday for threatening to kill a family member while holding a firearm.

A victim informed an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy that Jackson had yelled at her over a door being slammed. During their argument, Jackson allegedly picked up a firearm, held it at his side, and made threats to “harm” and “kill” her. In response, the victim retreated to her room but later emerged to seize the firearm from the couch before exiting the residence.

Post Miranda, Jackson reportedly denied that any altercation occurred and denied possessing a firearm or threatening the victim.

Jackson faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Although he does not have any prior criminal convictions, he was arrested last September for indecent exposure to children, customers, and staff at Jersey Mike’s. It was determined that he was mentally incompetent to stand trial, yet he did not qualify for commitment to a state mental facility. Consequently, he was released in January 2025 under several conditions, such as receiving mental health treatment and a ban on firearm possession. Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $75,000, with the potential for it to be waived if he enters Mental Health Court. Additionally, a mental health evaluation was ordered.

Articles concerning arrests rely on information provided by law enforcement agencies. The charges mentioned originate from arrest reports or court documents and remain accusations. Every suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
