In Decatur, Illinois, Aetna Better Health of Illinois is initiating monthly mobile farmer’s markets to offer free produce to residents in Central Illinois.

The healthcare provider collaborates with organizations like Get Covered Illinois and Wellness on Wheels to educate people on health improvement. At a recent event in Decatur, Aetna Better Health distributed bags of fresh produce at no charge.

Get Covered walks people through signing up for Medicaid and Wellness on Wheels provides free medical check-ups.

“We hope that by bringing home fresh fruits and vegetables, people will improve their health,” stated Becky Knick, the event coordinator. “Additionally, the health screening services allow us to detect issues like high blood pressure early, which benefits us and our members.”

Aetna’s next pop-up markets are July 19 in Champaign and Aug. 16 in Springfield.
