BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department detained a teenage suspect linked to the shooting of two individuals this week.

On Monday, June 16, officers from the South Precinct were sent to UAB Hospital following reports of two individuals with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.

Upon their arrival at the hospital, officers discovered that the vehicle, which the victims had occupied, was fired upon in the 1500 block of F.L. Shuttleworth Drive. The victims then drove themselves to the hospital.

Officers and detectives with the BPD spoke with the victims to gather information pertaining to the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old juvenile male.

BPD detectives presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, and the suspect was issued with two attempted murder warrants and a warrant for shooting into an occupied vehicle. BPD’s Crime Reduction Team and Narcotics Unit took the suspect into custody in the 1500 block of 20th Street North without any incident.

The juvenile is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
