LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A large crowd of demonstrators gathered in Lawrenceville, Georgia, on Saturday to express their disagreement with ICE raids and deportations. Many participants carried signs bearing the message, “Full Rights For All Immigrants.”
The demonstration was organized by the Atlanta-based Party for Socialism and Liberation. This group aims to counter what they refer to as the ‘far right assault’ targeting immigrants, activists, and the working class, as stated on their website.
Among the protesters was Cristina Butler, who commented on the situation: “It’s truly disheartening and frightening to witness this. The harshness faced by families isn’t fair. So much of their situation hinges on aspects like appearance or timing. It’s unjust for them to endure such harsh treatment because someone has chosen to target the Latino community.”
Butler went on to say Saturday’s protest may not bring about big changes but it is part of a bigger movement. “I don’t think my little signs are going to save the day, but I do think it’s important for the government, for communities and for everybody to know that there are numbers and we are stronger together and will stand and protect immigrant families.”
