Storm Team 3: Sizzling heat continues into this week

The forecast indicates yet another sweltering and muggy day, with temperatures soaring into the low to mid-90s and heat indices surpassing 100 degrees. If you’re outdoors, ensure to drink plenty of water and use sunscreen, as sunshine remains prevalent.

This scorching weather arises from a “high-pressure sandwich,” a scenario where high-pressure systems from the north and east converge, trapping warm and arid air in the area. As this pattern establishes itself, anticipate a further rise in heat over the coming days.

Throughout the mid to late workweek, expect temperatures to escalate to the mid to upper 90s, with heat indices nearing 110 degrees. This period is on track to be the hottest of the year so far, possibly prompting the issuance of heat advisories.

Please take precautions during this extreme heat:

  • Stay cool and hydrated
  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours
  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles
  • Wear light-colored, breathable clothing
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke

Unfortunately, this hot and humid trend isn’t going anywhere soon — so plan accordingly and prioritize your safety.
