According to reports, a group of armed individuals reportedly forced their way into a house in the Victoria region and attacked a resident. They then forced him into the trunk of his car and set the property ablaze.
Victoria Police stated that three unidentified individuals entered a residence on Melba Highway in Yea, located approximately 110km north-east of Melbourne, shortly before 2am today.
The trio were allegedly armed with two firearms and a machete.
Authorities suspect that the intruders demanded money and weapons from the 58-year-old homeowner. After assaulting him, they carried him outside and locked him in the trunk of his vehicle.
He allegedly got out of the vehicle and was threatened again by one of the offenders, whilst the other two set the house on fire.
The offenders allegedly poured petrol on the man, then fled the scene in a vehicle.
Three firearms were stolen from the property during the incident.
Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed by flames.
It took them about two hours to bring the blaze under control.
“The house was destroyed by fire,” the Country Fire Authority said.
The man was treated by paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are investigating the matter and urge anyone with information to come forward.
No arrests have been made.
