Two teens arrested after deadly shooting at Columbia, South Carolina Airbnb

AUGUSTA, Ga. () – In the early morning of June 22nd, at approximately 1:45 am, several RCSO deputies and investigators were on patrol around Broad Street when they heard numerous gunshots emanating from the 900 block of Ellis Street.

Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered a man who had been shot and provided medical assistance until an ambulance arrived. The victim was then taken to WellStar Medical Center, where his condition is reported as stable.

Officers at the scene detained several individuals attempting to flee, and a number of firearms were seized. Authorities report that numerous bullet casings were found scattered in the area, and multiple vehicles in the vicinity sustained damage from the gunfire.

After several interviews by investigators and evidence collected form the scene, charges were made against 20-year-old Demari Gaines, who was shot at least once during the incident.

Gaines is currently at WellStar Hospital in stable condition.

The investigation showed that he was involved in the shooting and is being charged with:

  • 2 counts of Aggravated Assault
  • 1 count of Criminal Damage to Property in the First Degree
  • 1 count of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime

RCSO says the investigation is still ongoing, and interviews re still being conducted.
