Other footage captured the man walking down the street, knocking on other doors for help.

A resident on Bellford Avenue finally opened their door, coming to the aid of the 28-year-old man about 4.30am.

“His leg was bleeding really bad,” the neighbour, who asked not to be identified, told 9News.

“We helped him out, and when we lifted up his hoodie that’s when we saw he’s got multiple stab wounds in his back.

“We were just trying to make him survive, get him to survive the ordeal.

“He was in pain, and we were just basically talking to the ambulance.”

The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police said he was lucky someone opened their door.

“He visited several homes, but each stop was brief until he arrived at a place where someone was ready to assist. Thankfully, this happened, as it led to a much more positive outcome for the press conference,” stated Detective Acting Inspector Jeff Lang.

9News spoke to a woman at a nearby block of units who said her son was involved in the incident. Exactly what role he played is unclear.

Police say the victim and offender are known to each other.

Because of his condition, police are yet to speak to the victim.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
