PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A plastic surgeon, charged with the murder of a Largo attorney, is set to make his initial court appearance on Wednesday morning, now represented by a newly assigned defense team.

This comes after Tomasz Kosowski’s legal team quit when he accused them of fraud, forgery, and other issues.

Since Kosowski continued to appear without representation, the judge appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent him.

Kosowski has continued to say that he does not want to represent himself during his trial.

Time and time again, the plastic surgeon has been showing up for his hearings alone.

During his last hearing in late May, the judge asked him where he was with finding representation.

“Have you spoken to any lawyers since the last time we were here?” the judge asked.

Kosowski responded, “No, sir,” and said nobody would meet with him.

The doctor is accused of killing Steven Cozzi, a Pinellas County lawyer, in the bathroom at Cozzi’s Largo office in 2023.

Investigators believe Kosowski took the body out of the office, but his body has still not been found.

During this time, Cozzi was representing one of the defendants against a lawsuit that was filed by Kosowski.

During the hearing in late May, the judge asked what else Kosowski was going to do to find a lawyer, since he didn’t want to represent himself.

“If we reset this for a couple of weeks, what efforts are you going to make to hire a lawyer?” the judge asked.

“Nothing new, sir,” Kosowski responded.

“You’re not going to do anything in the next two weeks?” the judge said.

“What can I? I mean, it’s my mother that’s doing all the work,” Kosowski responded.

The hearing began at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. If the doctor is convicted, he will face the death penalty.
