Starbucks Changes Pricing for Syrups, Powders

In order to make things faster and easier for baristas and potentially cheaper for customers, Starbucks is switching to a flat-fee system for syrups.

Starting Tuesday, at U.S. and Canada locations, you can get any mix of sauces and syrups for a set price of 80 cents, whether you choose one pump or four. There’s no charge for adding syrups to drinks that are already flavored, according to Bloomberg. Previously, the cost fluctuated based on the flavor, the number of pumps, and the types of drinks purchased.

Matcha powder add-ons will now cost $1 per scoop, chai concentrate is now set at 80 cents per serving, and dried fruit is now 50 cents each.

Starbucks has been making a slew of changes since Brian Niccol joined as CEO last fall, promising to turn around the company’s lagging sales.

“We’re returning to the essence of Starbucks. We’re honing in on what has always distinguished Starbucks — a friendly coffeehouse gathering spot, serving top-quality coffee, handcrafted by our talented baristas,” he expressed at the time. “This remains our core identity. From this point, we will continue to innovate.”

The company has since cut items from the menu, implemented a new dress code for baristas, and closed its former “open door” policy.
