Bragging rights: GA and SC have 3 of the most beautiful college campuses

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Travel + Leisure has unveiled its selection of the 30 most picturesque college campuses in the U.S. Featured on this list are one institution from South Carolina and two from Georgia.

Berry College in Mount Berry is number 2 on the list. The rural college is the largest contiguous college campus in the U.S. It encompasses 27,000 acres of fields, lakes, forests and mountains. The campus has many reflecting pools and fountains on the grounds of its English Gothic-inspired buildings. The school’s largest benefactor was Henry Ford.

Coming in at number 23 is Furman University in upstate South Carolina. Nestled in Greenville on 940 acres, the campus features a central lake, the landmark Bell Tower and a Japanese temple in the school’s Asia Garden. The campus also has an 18-hole golf course and miles of walking trails.

The University of Georgia is number 27 on the list. Located in the heart of Athens, the campus has historical buildings dating back to the early 1800s. Walk through Founders Memorial Garden which features fountains and more than 300 unique plants. You’ll also find the school’s iconic iron arch. Many students refrain from walking under it before graduating because it’s considered bad luck.
