Intense rainfall and powerful winds have led to serious coastal erosion at Wamberal Beach. In response, the council has resorted to placing sandbags along the coastline in a crucial attempt to safeguard homes.
Five properties along Ocean View Drive on the Central Coast have now been told to evacuate by the NSW SES.
Any residents with homes backing onto Wamberal Beach have been warned to stay vigilant and evacuate if necessary.
Multiple homes along Hutton Road in The Entrance North have also been directed to evacuate now due to dangerous surf and coastal erosion.
SES volunteers have started doorknocking in both areas and asking residents to leave now.
“You must evacuate now because it may become too dangerous to stay in this area,” the SES said in an evacuation notice shared shortly before 4pm.
A coastal swell caused dangerous landslips in the Central Coast area in April, and the SES has warned they could occur again.
Train services between Wyong and surrounding areas have been suspended as the storm continues to affect the coastline, impacting places from Coffs Harbour in the mid-north to Bega in the south of the state.
Sydney has also been hammered by significant rainfall and damaging winds.
The towering swells have resulted in multiple Sydney ferries being cancelled.
Earlier today, Jihad Dib, the NSW Minister for Emergency Services, indicated that the east coast is still facing challenges and cautioned that the weather conditions are expected to worsen later today and continue into tomorrow.
