SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA)— A driver has been cited after a crash caused dead chickens to spill across Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County.

On Tuesday morning, a collision took place on the westbound side at mile marker 26 close to Dorman High School, as reported by the SC Department of Transportation. The South Spartanburg Fire District helped manage the situation, noting that a thorough cleanup was required.

All lanes were blocked for almost 12 hours.

The SC Highway Patrol indicated that the driver had fallen asleep, resulting in the vehicle crashing into a cable barrier. This incident caused the vehicle to overturn, spilling the chicken carcasses it was transporting across the highway.

Firefighters shared photos with 7NEWS showing the single-vehicle crash with spilled contents across the interstate.

No injuries were reported, according to troopers.

SCHP said the driver was ticketed for driving too fast for the conditions.

The crash remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.
