Amid Jax Taylor’s struggles with mental health issues and an impending divorce from Brittany Cartwright on Season 2 of The Valley, Brittany disclosed additional financial woes. Not only had Jax neglected their Valley Village home mortgage for months, but he also suspended paying taxes.

“He repeated this pattern with his taxes for several years. He just didn’t pay,” Brittany mentioned on The Valley After Show. “He assumes the problem will somehow vanish.”

She further elaborated on the personal toll of Jax’s actions: “My mortgage was about 8,000 dollars a month, and now, because of his taxes, it’s 18,000 dollars a month.”

Jax gave his reasoning for not paying on the same episode of The Valley After Show. “I didn’t have the money to pay it, so, I just kind of let it ride,” he shared. “People make mistakes in taxes every single day. I learned my lesson.”

He also confirmed that he and Brittany did indeed have to “remortgage” their house due to his tax actions, causing the higher monthly payments. “Here we are. But I fixed it, and I made it clean. And now we’re good,” he explained.

That’s not to say that he doesn’t have any regrets, though. In fact, Jax admitted his remorse for how his actions impacted his estranged wife and their son, Cruz. “Putting my son and putting Brittany in such an awkward place, like I’ll never forgive myself for that. And it was just an awful thing to do,” he concluded on the After Show.

Brittany Cartwright breaks down her and Jax Taylor’s finances

Elsewhere on The Valley After Show, Brittany alleged that while Jax was responsible for paying the mortgage on their shared home, she paid for “everything else.”

“The electric, the water, the gas, the internet, doctor bills, our flights. I would buy all the groceries. I would buy Cruz’s clothes, Cruz’s shoes, Cruz’s toys, everything in our house I would buy,” she claimed. “So, at the end of it all, we were spending about the same, because our mortgage was very expensive because of what he did.”

She also explained how it took a toll on her financially to move into rental homes while Jax stayed in their house during their first months of separation.

“Houses with pools are very expensive, and I didn’t want to take Cruz away from a swimming pool because that is like his happy place,” she said. “And we’re already going through so much. So, I would spend a couple extra thousand a month to make sure that we had a good place for him. While I was doing that, I was still paying the bills at our house.”

Where Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright stand today after financial drama

Brittany has since taken over paying the mortgage on their house and moved back in with Cruz. Jax, for his part, moved into a townhouse next door to Tom Schwartz. They continue to co-parent Cruz.
