ORLANDO, Fla. – The NHC has now upgraded Tropical Depression Three to Tropical Storm Chantal as of the 8 a.m. intermediate advisory.
It has winds of 40 mph and is moving North at 2 mph.
Chantal is spinning about 150 miles south-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina, and is on the move.
A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect from South Santee River, SC, to Cape Fear, NC, replacing the earlier watch.
The storm is anticipated to start moving north-northwest later today and is predicted to shift northeast by Sunday night. Following its current trajectory, the center of Chantal is expected to reach the South Carolina coast by Sunday morning.
Stay tuned for updates, as heavy rain, gusty winds, and rough surf could impact portions of the Carolina coastline.
