MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — When Costen Campion arrived in Oxford, Mississippi, his initial plan was to participate as a walk-on for the Rebels Track and Field team. However, over the span of five years, this experience turned out to be much more significant than he anticipated.

The Mahomet-Seymour alum became a two-time NCAA regional qualifier and scored twice at the SEC Championships, placing him in the top ten in Ole Miss history for weight and hammer throw events.

The chance to achieve these marks came from plenty of perseverance.

“There were many days when I showed up for practice feeling reluctant to throw or lift because I was exhausted from my academic workload,” Campion admitted. “I had so much on my plate and there were moments when I honestly didn’t want to be there. But consistently showing up and giving my all, alongside teammates with a shared mindset, was incredibly supportive.” “I am extremely thankful for my teammates, coaches, and everyone who supported me throughout the journey.”
