CCSO clears hundreds of teens from Orange Park Mall after 'disturbances'

A spokesperson for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said there were no arrests or injuries reported on Saturday night.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — On Saturday night, flashing blue lights filled the Orange Park Mall as Clay County Sheriff’s deputies managed to control a large gathering of teenagers.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced on Saturday morning that they were aware of a reunion at the mall, which they hadn’t been invited to but were ready to intervene.

And they followed through on their plan—when a First Coast News crew arrived around the mall’s closing at 8 p.m., numerous police cars were present outside and filled the parking lot across the street, with deputies overseeing groups of teenagers.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said they responded to a group of teens causing “disturbances” at the mall.

She said deputies directed traffic and tried to get all of the kids across the street. Then, they made a post asking parents to come pick them up.

“I just pulled in to take a video because I couldn’t believe all the police activity,” said Louise Veiga, who lives near the mall. “I have a grandson that’s not allowed to come in this area because of different things his mom has heard.”

The spokesperson with the sheriff’s office said there were no arrests or injuries reported.
