() President Donald Trump will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday at the White House, where they’re expected to discuss a proposed ceasefire deal for the war in Gaza.
The Associated Press reports the proposal includes a 60-day pause in fighting, during which Hamas would release 10 living and 18 dead hostages. Israeli troops would withdraw to a buffer zone along Gaza’s borders with Israel and Egypt.
The plan also calls for more aid to be brought in and distributed by the United Nations and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. The deal would see Israel release an unknown number of Palestinian prisoners.
Israel has maintained that Hamas’ latest requests for a ceasefire deal are unacceptable.
sources within the Israeli government have said the prime minister has been taking Monday’s meeting “very seriously.” It marks the two leaders’ first in-person meeting since the United States aided Israel in bombing Iran last month.
Throughout the weekend, demonstrators have gathered in Tel Aviv, demanding the release of hostages in Gaza.
