Kingsport Fire Department hosting 2025 Citizens' Fire Academy

If you’re interested in gaining insights into the Kingsport Fire Department, consider joining the Citizens’ Fire Academy, scheduled from August 21 to September 25 in Kingsport, Tenn.

The free academy will provide attendees with the chance to gain insight into the operations, training and responsibilities of the KFD, such as:

  • Fire station and engine tours
  • Hands-on training with firefighting equipment
  • Vehicle extrication and search/rescue demonstrations
  • Community risk reduction, fire prevention and life safety education
  • Live fire simulations in a controlled environment
  • Ride-along opportunities with on-duty crews

Fire Chief Jerry DeBerry expressed in a news release, “The Citizens’ Fire Academy offered by the Kingsport Fire Department is an excellent chance for locals to interact with their fire department and appreciate the effort and training required to serve and protect our community. Additionally, it fosters stronger bonds between our firefighters and the citizens we serve.”

The academy will start on Aug. 21 and end Sept. 25 with weekly sessions each Thursday from 6-8 p.m.

This program invites those aged 18 and older who either reside or work in Kingsport and have a keen interest in discovering more about KFD’s safety and emergency operations.

A graduation dinner will be held at the end of the academy.

Space is limited, and the KFD asks those interested to apply early online or by picking up an application at the City Hall Information Desk or Kingsport Fire Department Station 1 (130 Island Street).
