ATLANTA (WRBL) — On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Labor announced a $6.1 million grant for the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) to support apprenticeships.

This funding will enable TCSG to establish the “Top State for Talent Apprenticeship Incentive Fund.” The objective of this fund is to help cover the expenses that employers face when hiring and training apprentices for in-demand job roles.

“This investment to expand apprenticeships means more Georgians can build their futures here and more Georgia businesses can find and retain the skilled workers they need,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Workforce Development Karen Kirchler. “Apprenticeships mean partnerships. To build a workforce that can compete globally, we need to work together.”

Through a application process, employers can apply to receive $2,000 per apprentice. Employers can also partner with local workforce development boards and technical colleges to obtain funds up to $5,000.

The Technical College System of Georgia says this is the largest federal apprenticeship grant awarded in Georgia history.
