A Nebraska man was denied bond on Monday, days after he allegedly killed his elderly father with a sword.
William Pae, aged 53, confessed to authorities that he had stabbed his 85-year-old father, Sung Pae, on July 3, at their family residence in Omaha. When police arrived, they found William Pae seated on a chair in the living room and discovered his father with stab wounds at the base of the stairs in the basement, as reported by WOWT.
Sung Pae was transported to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries, KETV reported.
William Pae allegedly confessed to attacking his father with a sword during an argument. Authorities reportedly discovered the weapon in the home.
William Pae’s public defender mentioned that he reportedly has mental health problems. However, no specific details about his mental condition were shared during the court proceedings on Monday.
“Some of that information is confidential and we cannot discuss it, but we are certainly investigating that aspect and considering it in the case,” Brenda Beadle, the Douglas County prosecutor, stated to WOWT.
William Pae, who has a clean criminal record, is charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He is due back in court on August 12.
