“Be aware that heavy snowfall is usually accompanied by strong winds, and today follows that pattern with powerful north-westerly gusts predicted to persist all day long.”

Guests have been told to keep an eye on the life reports as strong winds and icy temperatures could spell trouble for ski-lift operations.

The falls came after a strong cold front moved over the Alpine region, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

The front will also bring strong, severe, damaging winds to the area and other regions in NSW.

The affected regions include Newcastle, Wollongong, Nowra, Sydney Airport, Goulburn, Maitland, Bowral, Katoomba, Campbelltown, Braidwood, Kiama, Ulladulla, and Lithgow.

Snowfall is expected to continue today with very high chances of snow showers in Perisha and Thredbo.
