Emergency services cordoned off the area shortly after 10:30am, with the SES putting up screens while the man’s body was recovered from the water.

Paramedics were unable to revive the man, who has since been identified as a resident of Christie Downs.

“I was planning to go fishing with my friend, and halfway there, we came across a body with a skateboard tied to its legs, and it seemed entangled in a fishing net,” one of the boys recounted.

“And then we saw his pants and a shirt… and then we called our parents,” the other boy added.
