TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. () — A Toombs County deputy was involved in a crash on July 4 in Hazlehurst, Georgia, that resulted in the death of a teen.

Deputy Devin Spikes reported to dispatch that his patrol vehicle had been involved in an accident with a dirt bike ridden by 19-year-old Jadian Jamire Bouie. Deputy Spikes administered life-saving measures while a bystander contacted 911.

Bouie was transported to a hospital where he later died.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) conducted a preliminary investigation, which revealed that Deputy Spikes, after fully stopping at a 4-way intersection, proceeded and was then struck by Bouie’s dirt bike. Evidence collected at the scene indicated that Bouie was exceeding the 25 miles per hour speed limit, and he had neither stopped nor yielded at the intersection. The extent of the damage to both the patrol vehicle and the dirt bike, along with Bouie’s injuries, suggested that Bouie was traveling at an exceedingly high speed.

The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is conducting an investigation.
