AUSTIN (Nexstar) State Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, has filed for divorce from her husband, Attorney General Ken Paxton. The news comes as Ken Paxton is a candidate for U.S. Senate, challenging incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the Republican primary.
During Ken Paxton’s 2023 impeachment trial in the Senate, Angela Paxton was present for the trial, but was disqualified from voting. A key piece of evidence in the impeachment case against the attorney general was an affair he was accused of having by those close to him.
In a statement posted to X, Angela Paxton wrote that she believes marriage is a sacred covenant.

It is unclear which recent discoveries the senator is referring to.

“After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” the attorney general wrote.
Ken Paxton’s former chief of staff testified in the impeachment trial that the attorney general addressed his staff, with Angela Paxton present, admitting to having an affair. Paxton was ultimately acquitted of all charges by the Senate.
Angela Paxton and Ken Paxton were married for 38 years. Angela Paxton has served in the Senate since 2019, and Ken Paxton has served as attorney general since 2015.
