Kanye West’s fans erupted into an angry chant after the rapper was more than 40 minutes late to his 70,000-strong crowd gig in Shanghai, China.
During the weekend, the controversial artist, known as Ye, faced a chorus of upset fans demanding their money back, as reported by the Global Times.
A video captured by a fan on X features thousands shouting for a refund due to the delays and numerous technical issues that disrupted the “Jesus Walks” rapper’s performance.
“I’ve admired Kanye West since my teenage years. His 2010 album, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,’ introduced me to the intricacies in music,” a fan shared on X.
“Was hard to get tix for him in Shanghai but got it. Was hyped af. Couldn’t even sleep night before. But. Worst concert I’ve ever been to. @kanyewest u can be better.”
In a follow-up post, the frustrated concert-goer slammed the rapper’s decision to perform live.
“@kanyewest you should not tour. It’s not for you. Stick to the studio. Drop surprise albums and be that guy. I’m the biggest supporter of (most of) your work. You waste people’s time, excitement and money by pretending that you’re a performer,” he added.
In another series of posts, the fan accused the 24-time Grammy winner of lip syncing.
“Mostly lip synching. His microphone must have been up less than 20 per cent of the time,” he wrote on X, before claiming that West left the stage for 20 minutes during the encore.
“For the encore, he disappeared for over 20 minutes at one point as tracks like Wolves just played out with him nowhere in sight,” he wrote on X. “I could have just played your music at home man. Came to see u perform????”
During his brief time onstage, fans claimed that West suffered from a myriad of technical issues, forcing the DJ to restart several songs from scratch.
After the show — which marked West’s first since September 2024 — one gig-goer said they had “never seen such a poorly organized concert,” adding it was the “worst concert ever.”
On Saturday night, event promoter StellarAmberGroup wrote on China’s social media platform, Sina Weibo, that not all visuals could be executed as planned, blaming heavy rainfall for the show’s disappointing production.
“However, for this long-awaited return after 17 years, Ye’s team insisted on prioritizing artistic integrity. After emergency adjustments, the show was delayed to ensure the best possible experience and to minimize the disappointment for the audience,” the statement said.
“We are deeply moved by the understanding and patience shown by many of the attendees and express our heartfelt gratitude. We also extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused and appreciate everyone’s attention and support.”
The rapper’s Shanghai show came just days after his former assistant accused him of sexual assault, battery, stalking, sexual battery, sex trafficking, false imprisonment and oral rape in an amended lawsuit.
In legal documents obtained by The Post, Lauren Pisciotta — who was West’s personal assistant from 2021 through 2022 — claimed that most of the alleged crimes took place on a business trip to San Francisco during her tenure.
Pisciotta, an influencer and former OnlyFans model, claimed she turned down alleged advances from West on numerous occasions.
In her amended suit, the 36-year-old claimed that West — who shares four children with ex-wife Kim Kardashian — kissed her on the mouth and later masturbated while “forcibly touching” her during a writing session in his hotel room.
She further alleged that the “Stronger” rapper forced himself into her hotel room, asking to use her shower, before orally raping her. She claims he pinned her down, leaving her “froze[n] in shock and fear.”
The “Runaway” rapper’s spokesperson has since fired back at Pisciotta’s claims in a statement to Page Six.
