John MacArthur, pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, died Monday at the age of 86 after a battle with pneumonia.

“With heavy hearts but with joy as well, we announce that our cherished pastor and teacher, John MacArthur, has gone to be with the Savior,” stated a Monday-night post on the X account of “Grace to You,” which serves as MacArthur’s media ministry. “This evening, his faith turned into sight. He persevered with dedication until his journey was complete.”

This announcement follows a statement made by associate pastor Tom Patton to the congregation during a Sunday service on July 13. Patton shared that MacArthur had been hospitalized due to an illness, as reported by The Roys Report.

“Earlier this week, Pastor John developed pneumonia,” Patton mentioned during the service. “He was admitted to the hospital and may soon be in the presence of the Lord.”
