() A University of California, Berkeley professor was murdered in Greece, according to ABC News.

Przemyslaw Jeziorski, 43, was visiting his family when he was allegedly shot and killed in Athens on July 4 near the home where his two children, Zoe and Angelo, live. Jeziorski was allegedly in the country to attend a court hearing about a custody battle and ongoing division of property, according to a co-worker and close friend.

“I never thought something like this would happen to my family,” Lukasz Jeziorski, Przemyslaw’s brother, said in part of a statement on Facebook.

Jerziorski’s faculty profile at the University of California, Berkeley described him as, “with over 15 years of experience in research and teaching, he has earned a reputation as a leading expert in quantitative marketing, industrial organization, and applied microeconomics. His research made a contribution to a variety of markets, including mobile money in Africa, sponsored search advertising, radio broadcasting, car insurance and breast cancer prevention.”

Jennifer Chatman, Haas Dean at the University of California, Berkeley, said in a statement that the school was “heartbroken” over the passing of Jerziorski, and he was a “beloved member of our marketing faculty and Haas community.”

Lucas Jeziorski said there have not been any arrests since the incident.
