A Texas woman was indicted last week for attempting to kill her ex-husband with poisoned chocolates.

According to an arrest affidavit, Pamela Stanley traveled to a motel in Weatherford on May 30 to obtain fentanyl for her scheme, as reported by KXAS. Unknowingly, she arranged the transaction with an undercover investigator.

The affidavit indicates that a “complainant” alerted authorities that “a woman had contacted them, revealing a plot to murder her ex-husband using powdered fentanyl.”

Authorities stated that Stanley’s plan included sending the fentanyl to her ex-husband disguised as a gift from a travel agency to celebrate his recent engagement, complete with a ‘honeymoon’ incentive offer.

Jeffrey Kauth, the ex-husband, said “it was a pretty ingenious plan.”

“I would have probably ate the chocolates. My fiancé would have ate the chocolate, but even worse, we have two minor children here,” he said. “I’m sure they would have eaten some as well, and she has no remorse.”

Kauth said he and Stanley were divorced in 2019, “but she’s just been angry since.”

Kauth said his former wife “has made lots of texts, numerous texts and threatening situations” since the divorce, prompting him to install flood lights and surveillance cameras on his property.

Stanley was indicted on July 11 on charges of solicitation to commit murder and criminal attempt to commit murder. She was further charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

She has been behind bars for more than a month on a $550,000 bond.

Parker County District Attorney Jeff Swain said Stanley faces up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if she’s convicted.
