BLUE RIVER, Colo. (NEWS10) — The stepdaughter of Berkshire County District Attorney Timothy Shugrue has been identified as the victim of an alleged murder in Colorado, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. 32-year-old Jordan Elizabeth LaBarre was reportedly found dead on July 7.

At around 6:20 p.m. that day, law enforcement from several Summit County and state police agencies responded to a report of shots fired at a home in Blue River. Upon arrival to the scene, authorities heard active gunfire inside the residence, the bureau of investigation said.

Officers reportedly surrounded the home and ordered the suspect to come out. According to authorities, Daniel Joseph DeVito, 46, exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

Labarre was found dead inside the home, officials said. DeVito was then charged with an unrelated offense and taken to the Summit County Detention Facility.

On July 9, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation reportedly “obtained probable cause” to arrest DeVito in connection with the homicide. He was charged with first-degree murder.

According to her obituary, LaBarre graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Pittsfield in 2011 and from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in 2015. She moved to Breckenridge, Colorado after graduation and enjoyed hiking, camping, snowboarding and other outdoor sports, as well as spending time with her dog, Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church in Pittsfield. A livestream of the funeral will be available on the Dwyers Funeral Home website.

The Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office has declined to comment at this time.
