Arizona police announced on Tuesday that it is recommending criminal charges against a father whose 3-year-old drowned on their property in May.

Chandler police spokesperson Ryan Cody stated they are pursuing felony child abuse charges against Brady Kiser in connection with Trigg Kiser’s drowning death. The Arizona Republic noted that Trigg Kiser passed away on May 18, a few days after being discovered in his family’s backyard pool in Chandler.

Court records indicated that police were mulling child abuse charges before the toddler’s death.

Brady Kiser reportedly informed authorities that he was at home with his two sons while his wife, social media influencer Emilie Kiser, was out with friends. He stated he observed the toddler playing near the pool, which was “not uncommon.” He also mentioned that a protective cover was generally over the pool.

Brady Kaiser allegedly said he was attending to his newborn son when he lost sight of the 3-year-old for up to five minutes. He claimed to have found him eventually floating in the backyard pool. Police secured a warrant to acquire surveillance footage to verify the father’s statements, as reported by the Arizona Republic.

The boys’ mother, Emilie Kiser, has more than 4 million followers on TikTok. People reported that on May 27, she filed a lawsuit to keep information about Trigg Kiser’s death withheld from the public. The family’s lawyer wrote that they “desperately want to grieve in private, but sadly, the public will not let them.”

Earlier this month, the Arizona Superior Court for Maricopa County granted Emilie Kiser’s motion to keep her personal declaration private. People reported that the order will temporarily keep Trigg Kiser’s case private as the courts rule on her May 27 filing.

A source told People that the influencer’s personal declaration “reflects an intensely personal account of her grief and trauma, submitted to help the court understand her perspective — not for public consumption.”

Meanwhile, Chandler police said it submitted its case against Brady Kiser to Maricopa County prosecutors, who will ultimately decide whether to charge him.
