Las Vegas nurse pleads guilty in $14 million Medicare scam

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas nurse practitioner pleaded guilty to conspiring to fraudulently bill Medicare for wound care in exchange for illegal health care kickbacks, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Prosecutors charged Mary Huntly, 67, with conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and receiving or paying health care kickbacks.

Huntly applied medically unnecessary allografts, a product made with amniotic fluid aimed to help stubborn healing, to Medicare beneficiaries who were procured through illegal kickbacks and bribes, according to court documents and admissions made in court.

From September 2022 through April 2024, Huntly’s wound care company fraudulently billed Medicare about $14,333,550 and Medicare paid about $9,105,563 based on those false claims.

Huntly was one of more than 300 defendants charged in the U.S. Department of Justice’s 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, according to a news release.

Huntly is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 15. She faces a maximum of five years in prison.
